Where We Stand:

Howard Pugh (Getty Images Contributing Photographer)
I am a Getty Image Contributing photographer. Born in Zimbabwe, I commenced my documentary lifestyle portfolio photographing the dancers and performers at Sun City, South Africa. After photographing the 1995 South African De Beers Diamond competition, I Moved to London.
London 1986: I assisted the British photographer Spencer Rowel with the 'Be Somebody Le Coq Sportif Campaign' (the first time the French employed an English advertising agency and photographer). I also assisted Spencer on his now famous Athena Poster image that sold five million copies of Man and Baby (or L'Enfant) : http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O1239964/lenfant-poster-rowell-spencer/ .
1990 - 1995: I was sponsored by BT and The Boots Company to produce an exhibition, Women of Influence: http://womenofinfluence2.blogspot.co.uk/ - the first exhibition of its kind utilizing an early 19th-century Gum bichromate printing process rendering painterly images from photographic negatives. My Gum prints were produced on hand made recycled papers - 50 plus portraits of the first British women achievers to break through the 'glass ceiling' in a mans' world.
My photography has been published in various household magazines in both journalistic and commercial capacities.
I was selected as a Getty Image contributor in 2014: http://www.mylimitededition.biz/ ('hit' the Getty Images Website button)
My work nowadays is mostly of an ever changing 'Brexit' London lifestyle. I am currently working independently, on the EU funded Vauxhall and Battersea Riverside Tideway projects. Environmental projects to revitalize residential riverside infrastructure, lifestyle and reduce aesthetic pollution of the River Thames, London, UK.

I am proposing one of the 2017 Getty Images Editorial Grant Projects be: Pursuit of Health
“Pursuit of Health” is a photographic project that explores the connection between people, nutrition, exercise and lifestyle. My images incorporate the role of old and new technology in the everyday pursuit of health. My portraits are of city folk who depend on old and new technology, and how it effects their work and home life.
For example, my portraits will capture and link city folk who prefer the use of:
- the Fitbit App
- the Apple Watch
- Gorge altitude training masks
In contrast with the old school characters who remain in favor of:
My portraits will then connect the new and old school technology, city folk with their families and their eating / lifestyle habits. This visual theme will incorporate interesting shopping spots (farmers' markets etc), favorite food dishes, favorite restaurants and smoothies of choice.
My portraits, depending on permission and release, will depict the good and bad sides to nutrition, exercise and lifestyle - the happiness and the depression. Each portrait will be presented with a short autobiography. A statement about the portrayed, their nutritional habits, exercise, health and lifestyle.
With the help of The Getty Images Grant, I hope to continue working on the Pursuit of Health project. In order to focus it's benefits on UK city communities where health change is not only affecting physical lifestyle, but also challenging mental health and positive existence. The Pursuit of Health project is aimed at informing the city community of healthier nutritional, exercise and lifestyle choices to improve the quality of their future.
